Dark Side Of The Lens is 2010 documentary short film directed by Mickey Smith, produced by Helen Hayden, edited by Allan Wilson, cinematography by Mickey Smith, Allan Wilson, composed by Mickey Smith, sound by Simon O’Reilly
Plot
A man tells us of and shows us his passion: speaking to us in a voice-over narration as we see film of the power of the ocean, waves hitting rocks, breaking waves curling, himself filming above and below the surface, and surfers in their element.
It’s a Celtic voice and a Celtic sea. It’s the voice and footage of Mickey Smith, an Irish cinematographer of surfing. His words go from philosophical and poetic to homely and matter of fact. The images are both grand and up close.
