Plot

Since separating from his wife Mira, Ben’s life has been in trouble. Their two children, Erna and Oskar, now live with their mother, who is also expecting twins from her new partner Diego . Ben, who only sees his children every other weekend, suffers from the situation: he struggles through his everyday life as a police officer indifferently – often with the help of alcohol. When Mira goes into premature labor and is forced to spend the rest of the pregnancy in the hospital, she initially wants Diego to take over the care of Erna and Oskar. But Ben, who can’t stand Diego and sees the opportunity to convince Mira of his fatherly qualities once again, decides without further ado to take his children with him for two weeks.

While Erna is immediately excited about the upcoming time with her father, Oskar reacts reservedly. When Ben discovers a dress in Oskar’s suitcase and he then confronts Mira, she tells him that Oskar has been wearing the dress for six months. Ben reacts with incomprehension to the situation that was kept secret from him and throws the item of clothing in the trash before making an appointment with a psychologist. To Ben’s displeasure, he suspects that Oskar could be transsexual . Shortly afterwards, when Oskar asks Ben to call him Lili and the situation at home threatens to escalate, they receive a surprise visit from the youth welfare officer , Ms. Steck. Ben is forced to comply with Oskar’s demands and reluctantly agrees to give him back his dress and call him Lili from then on.

After his request for vacation was blocked by his superior, Ben parks the children with his parents while they work. Both are no less surprised by Oskar’s change, but confront their son with different opinions. When Lili stands in front of him one morning again in jeans and demands to be called Oskar, Ben sees his idea that her behavior can only be traced back to a whim confirmed. Mira is overwhelmed by the news. Desperate, she tells Ben that no one at school had any idea that Lili was born a boy. When Lili finally returns from school scared and with bruises on her body, Ben is forced to rethink. He tries to talk to a trans woman he knows who advises him to support his child.

The next morning, Ben is summoned to school after Lili becomes violent. The school management declares the attempt at integration to be a failure and temporarily suspends the child from classes. When he arrives home, Mira, Diego and Ms. Steck confront him about not fulfilling his duties. They decide to take the children with them, but when Mrs. Steck suggests that she wants to temporarily place Erna and Lili in a foster family, Mira’s water bursts and Lili suddenly runs away in the tumult. Diego is only able to persuade Ben, who is now very drunk, to help find Lili. Ben is finally able to find Lili the next day in the middle of the forest, where he tearfully promises that he will always be there for her. A short time later, the family arrived at the hospital reconciled.
